Looking to find out details on this motor I just picked up:
Tecumseh HS40-55565K

Anyone know what year this was produced?

We need the serial number to give a production year.

Not to answer my own questions, but

I found this:
EXAMPLE OF SERIAL NUMBER. (THIRD SET OF NUMBERS)
9105B—-> 9= the year of manufacture–1989
105= the calendar day the engine was manufactured–April 15
B= the line and shift the engine came from.

So that would mean
My motor was produced April 1 1988?
the double zeros indicate day 1? can't be anything less than the first day?

Either 78 or 88, 5th day of the year -- I think if it has a metal recoil, it's probably '78

partstree shows electronic ignition. That rules out '78
