I'm restoring a 1970 Sears Super 2 Speed (made by Bird) with an original 4HP Tecumseh motor. The muffler was missing when I purchased the bike. Has anyone seen a cut out in the housing like shown below? I'm beginning to think the previous owner cut it out like that. I can't find any pictures which show what the cut out would be for. Any help is appreciated.

The cover should not be cut out. God only knows why it was done.

But you'll need to either replace it or patch it. Otherwise she's going to get hot.

Whoever cut the shroud must have been using the CA EPA approved fuel line. That stuff is a tight fit inside the small block Tecumsehs.

I have a cover for a 5hp Tecumseh if you need one. The motor has a hole in the block and im probably just going to throw it away. pay the shipping and its yours.
