Terra two piece

I did cut out a couple of flat bars across the frame when I was fitting the gas tank. IMG_20250130_120501.jpg
I need to put something back in their places. I can bend a couple of 1 1/4 steel bars to match the seat pan and weld them
to the frame. IMG_20250130_120501.jpg IMG_20250130_120727.jpg IMG_20250130_120739.jpg
They would line up with the pads under the seat right here.

That is pretty far to the rear, but it is neater than cutting that fender. I could use the fender as a mold and make a fiberglass partial fender but we are already on the heavy side. What are your ideas? It' s time to make some progress.

The fender as a seat mount initially came to mind, but the bent flat bars to match the contour of the seat bottom, is the ticket imo.

Fender may bend and distort from bumps riding. I think 1/4 inch steel will hold up better.

Doesn't it look nice sitting towards the back like that !

It does look good back there, but given the distance to the handlebars, I think it might better for our backs if we could stay more vertical instead or hunching over or leaning forward. Maybe a small saddle bag would help fill that gap behind the seat.

The quick and dirty way for me is to bend the straps to match the seat base, weld the straps to the frame and glue the rubber pads under the seat to the steel arches. No hinges, solid seat. Then, add a tool bag behind the seat.
That seat you are working with...looks even more challenging than mine. Be patient and it will come to you.

OK, I have time to get this project back out of the corner. I have been wondering about how to bend the 1 1/2 x 1/8 straps to support the seat.
I bought a set of CT70 foot pegs with a kick stand. I will be making a little progress this summer. There is so much stuff in my shop, I need to buy ANOTHER portable building to store and use my woodworking equipment. Wifey and Will have been acquiring more crap than they have been discarding. That makes piles of stuff in my way. Anyway, I have time and some parts for this bike. I really want to ride this thing.

Do you have a big vice and a hammer? 1/8 inch isn't to bad to bend. Little heat from a small propane torch can make it easier. I bent the 3/8 round stock for my sissy bar by hand in my vice with a little heat from a propane torch.

With the kinker, I can adjust the distance between the rollers and change the radius die to bend flat stock pretty accurately. (I hope!)
I might need a hammer on top of the bend, just to keep the flat bar from rising above the die. It really isn't critical, because it will be under the seat, anyway. I have a hinge for the seat. I need a tool box to mount under the seat.
