Tire sizes

I have a bike that has 12.5-6-2 ply knobby tires. What is the equivalent to that? I can't find any tires listed anywhere in that size. I have been searching around on here and I can't find anything.

Maybe a defunct size designation system? Take some measurements and compare to currently available sizes. Assuming 12.5 is OD in inches, I'm guessing a 4.10-6, 4.10/3.50-6 or a 13x4-6 may be close. If the outside diameter and section width are close, they should be okay. Check the specs on tires linked below.

That is an archaic indexing system from what I am able to tell.

Unless you have empirical data, you're not going to find that number with standard "inch" mini bike tire numbering on new tires, as height is not part of the "inch" indexing system. Most of the Chinese tires (Chen Shin) on 6" wheels are at 12" or slightly taller, and the 530 X 450 X 6 tires OldMiniBikes sells are around 14". (Includes the Coker which is an excellent tire)

The metric system of numbering tires does include aspect ratio, where the aspect ratio is a percentage of tire height based on nominal section width. For example, a six inch based tire with a width of 4.5 inches would have to have an aspect ratio of 70 to get you to 12.3 inches. Calculator Here. The aspect ratio is the second number. (After the slash)

Most of the six-inch metric tires seem to be in the 145/70 size, and that is nearly 14" tall.

There are two used tires listed as 12.5 X 6 that have been on Ebay for awhile that don't look too bad, and are unique. Old is mostly for show though.

There just aren't many choices for tires anymore.

will be most equivalent to a 4.10/3.50x6" tire. 12.5 is intended to be the overall height in inches. one note, If it has any other numbers such as 4.50 in the size it will be the wider 12.5" high version, which depending on your bike might not fit.

Yea just typical 4.10/3.50x6 or 4.10x6" will be about he best bet, of course knobbies in that size aren't available in that size anymore but you can find studded pretty easy. I know this old beater I flipped a few years back had the 12.5-6" knobbies on it as fox used them in the 70's as well as a few others.

Fox is the bike mine are located on too. I was thinking what you are saying. Going with the studded. The Carlisle 5160351 looks like the one I will use.
