Today we do guides

Man the guides always go on these. Both my 3hp 80232 and 5hp 130202 both have bad exhaust guides and not amazing intake guides. Yall think it's worth changing them out? Both are cool bore engines and I'm wondering if I should justify buying all the tools for the job when I got the 3hp for $15 and the 5hp for $35...
It does mean I can replace future valve guides if needed though, soo...

You gonna do anything else to that thing? like shaving the eyebrows or porting? What else have you done to it?

The seats will get cut to make sure the valves are concentric and a good seal. Shaving the brows is not legal on a WKA limited modified, so this build will not be shaved or ported. The bore is currently at max being .080" over. Inside of block has been clearenced for high lift cam. The lifters already have their own bronze guides installed. Lifter region already welded.

If you plan on doing much thorough valve work, I recommend having your own tooling as long as you're capable of each task.

Ah, don't know anything about the WKA stuff. That makes a lot of sense.
Sweet little engine! any other pics of it?

Also, about the valve work. Do any of the tools work with other engines, like tecumsehs? anything I should know as someone who may do this for the first time?

I don't work on Tecumseh at all, so I couldn't say. I once owned a Tec star (The 10hp with reverse ports) some time back just for fun. I bought it real cheap and had some fun with it, mounted on an old trailhorse. Glad I sold that motor when I did... It was built by someone from GA, and had a VKE decal on the front shroud. I do know VKE is no longer around building any motors, due to people getting sick/passing away.
When it comes to reamers, I do not recommend any reamers from Briggs. Most often they are too big.
Go with an actual machinist type brand like MSC, Goodson or EZ-BORE to name a few. Tooling gets expensive real quick, and some of which is NLA, so if it's just a backyard motor just send it out to a reputable kart shop. Experience tends to be cheaper than your mistakes in the end.
