torque converter on a tapered shaft?

So I am in the planning stages of a Tule trooper I picked up a while back, and trying to figure out the power train. I've got my heart set on using an 8 horse flathead briggs with a torque converter. the problem is that the only ones that ever pop up in my area are on generators, and I believe generator engines are mostly all tapered shaft motors. My question is can a torque converter such as the 40 series be used on a tapered shaft? are the cranks long enough to just cut off the tapered section? how can I accomplish this? any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an 8HP briggs with a 3/4 inch straight shaft. motor was running on my pressure washer but the fuel pump started leaking otherwise it runs fine. It is a boverned engine and you would have to fabricate your throttle linkage. Let me know if you are interested but the shipping from Texas might cost a bit.
