In the box of parts that were with the bike I have a driver pulley. It does not look like the fairbanks morse driven I have seen in other photos, no name numbers or any other identification. Does anyone know the brand and if it will work with the original driven? Thank you

series20 drivens pull inward. series30 drivens pull outward. on that MTD it's a series20. it also is probably a 5/8" wide belt. all the new drive units will be set up for a 3/4" belt. you have some thinking and/or work to do here to make it all jive together... Most of the TC drive units off say ebay are series30. that won't work with the original series20 driven on that MTD. also all torque converters sold today (drive and driven) will be 3/4 belt. and that won't work with your (probably) 5/8" belt driven. But the good news is you can convert that new drive unit to a series20 with about $25 in parts. and you can convert it to 5/8" belt too. it's some work but you can do it.

What would you suggest I do?
You need to have a matching driver and driven. I am not sure which is the better series to run on a MTD... either get a 30 series driven to match your driver or get 20 series complete set up. You need to search it out a little further to see what other people have done. I am unsure which series.

Back it up a second, let's hear about that serious piece of smoking machinery in the background...hobby or business?

another thing you could do is buy a series20 inside sheave and it would basically convert that series30 drive to a series20.

as for the belt difference 3/4 versus 5/8, you can do some lathe work to the drive to make it 5/8". or some spacing to the driven to make it 3/4". or you can just buy the right stuff. that would probably be the easy thing to do...

So is it as simple as replacing the driven pulley?
