Tote-Gote brake adjustment

#1
No posts so far today ... geeze, I better post something, to prime the pump !

Anyway, I want to ride the Tote-Gote, and recall the last ride, I was getting concerned about it's ability to stop as needed.

So I traced the brake cable to a band brake on one of the jackshafts

Examining that setup, I see there is an adjustable rig on the cable.

Now to fit my arm and hand in there ... lol

I'll be back with progress, and more photos.

When I pull manually on the cable, behind the adjuster, it pulls the handle back to fully open

Which leads me to wonder, would tightening the adjuster make the bike stop better, and bring the handle back to fully open upon release ?

@Richard Trotter and @Davis

Or do I need to "pull more cable" through the stop nut that is close to the attachment point of the cable to the band brake to stop better, and pull the handle back fully ?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

The cable sure looks tensioned but maybe not. Honestly a gote usually just uses the primary clutch back shift to slow down as the brakes are kinda a novelty.
Thanks @Davis

I understand about novel ! All that gearing is hard to keep it at an idling standstill when needed.

I'm hoping once I decide where to make the adjustment, that my bike will stop a little easier - and that the handle will go back to fully open.

... I think you need a better throttle return spring to stop the Gote from creeping.

Thank you @Richard Trotter

I implemented the return spring, and adjusted the throttle cable - great throttle return now

Now on to the next hurdle... carb won't pick up fuel. So I need to clean and rebuild it. I've never cleaned/rebuilt a briggs carburetor.

Sounds like I need to remove both the gas tank and carburetor, to clean/rebuild the carb , is that right ?

Also, what is the name of this tank mounted carburetor? ( I don't think it's a flowjet, nor a pulsa jet. )

Thanks in advance

That is a Pulsa Jet, there is a cover on the other side under which is a diaphragm fuel pump. You will need a new diaphragm at the very least.
Thank you.

I need to determine my engine model number, so I can then determine carburetor model number

I see lots of inexpensive China carbs, so am going to try that, once I figure out the model number of the carburetor

(I've had good luck with the China carbs on other engines - as opposed to missing clean out of some unknown orifice on old carb )
