Before you buy a carb, just slap a pump diaphragm in it. They are available on Amazon, eBay, at Tractor supply and most good garden stores.
Don't worry too much about the carb model number. Pulsa Jet is the key phrase. They really do start easier and run better with a $15 diaphragm in them.

Thanks Dave. @sparkwizard Are all the pulsa jet diaphrams the same size and pattern ?

I think they are all the same, but, I am not an expert. I take a picture of my carb and match it to the drawer full of the same part number diaphragm parts in have in the tool box.
I do believe there was a different one at some point, but it was on a smaller, older engine. (Vara jet?)

Thanks Dave. I thought after I initially asked, I should of just removed the cover on the carburetor, and looked myself !

Crap, easier said than done ... lol

My exhaust is in the way of removing the diaphragm cover. I'm going to have to take the carb off, to access the diaphragm cover.

On a positive note, the shape of the cover looks similar to that diaphram photo above.

It might be easier to remove the exhaust. There is a bolt below the tank and the throttle and governor linkage are between the tank and the block.
Can be a PITA.

Since it sounds like a high probability that it's the diaphragm, I will probably remove the exhaust to access it.

Now I know what to order if the diaphragm replacement does not resolve it.

The engine is sitting on my work bench, gas tank and air filter installed, it is a factory quart tank setup. Oh and no exhaust on it at the moment, that helps.

If the diaphragm doesn't resolve the problem, take the carb off and clean it. there are only a few fuel passages on the carb, they are about as simple of carb as you can get.

If you do need to remove the carb from the tank, look closely at the filter screen at the end of the long tube that draws fuel from the bottom of the tank. That will give same symptoms as bad diaphragm, but is less likely.
