Weekend Project

#1
Alright, so the goal this weekend is to be able to take this:

Give it a fresh coat of black spray paint, install this:

Along with these goodies:

I made decent progress this afternoon, got the bike stripped down, yes I don't currently have a chain breaker and didn't feel like dealing with it so the old chain is still on there. And yes I have a new chain.

Was able to get the primer and a coat of black sprayed:

Since I was bored and antsy I mocked up the motor, for mods it's just those boltons and the carb is jetted, I have no plans to build the motor further or worry about removing the governor. I will be going with the stock doodlebug gas tank mounted underneath the seat, my clutch is a Max Torque with 3100 rpm stall, and I will be upgrading to a hydraulic brake.

I did drill the holes for the motor mount plate and the seat gas tank bracket, so install tomorrow should be easy, I just have to run to harbor freight and pick up a chain breaker. Where does one get mini bike tires mounted? I have 2 brand new tires, would pep boys do it? I'll definitely take pictures tomorrow when I finish, and thanks guys for all your knowledge I've searched and used on this forum!

I put the chain over a socket. This is after grinding the tip or dremmel. Gently held on each side of the link I am removing by vice grips. And knock the pin out with the punch.

I just put new tires on mine, after wheels were off only took like 5 minutes per tire, used my dirt bike tire irons, really was not bad at all.

It's finished! Runs like a bat out of hell.

Had some issues getting the chain tight enough, had to loosen up all the motor mount bolts and use a pry bar to push the motor forward enough to get the proper tension, taking out links made it way too tight. Make sure the clutch sprocket is lined up with the rear sprocket!!! If anyone wants or needs I can take pics on how I hooked up the throttle since I always see people asking. I have not wired in the kill switch yet, probably tomorrow will get that done. Other than that, pretty straight forward swap, made easier by searching around the forums for generic questions. Thanks guys!

Cool Dealio ! Make a spring loaded chain tensioner and no worries
Spring loaded chain tensioner? Enlighten me please! Sounds like something that could help me out! Thanks for the comments and help, BTW, the tires were an enormous PITA!!! I accidentally somehow stuck the tire iron right through the rear tire, waste of 40 bucks, oh well. Everywhere I called really didn't know if they could do it, and if I brought it to them they weren't going to put it on the machine and was just going to manhandle it, so I decided to do it myself. Maybe I shouldn't have.

I don't have pics of any I've made but OND just made one and has pics on here ! The tires are easy enough , one side pushes onto rim with just a little persuasion , use a little dish soap for lube , the second half gets a little trickier ,I use 2 large c-clamps about 5" apart from each other and squeeze the tire down and walk em on w/large screwdrivers ! Truly not that hard to do !

Thanks man, how are you liking your predator swapped doodlebug?
I love the engine swap it has awesome power, I'm glad that I changed it out, I enjoyed the the whole engine swap thing ...and the best was at the end of the swap ,. when it lifted the front wheel on a rolling punch!.

Alright, it's been a couple days, time to put in an update. The motor is running great, I'm still playing with the fuel choke to find that perfect setting, I'm running the .39" carb jet, it doesn't idle very smooth with the fuel choke all the way off and will stall out when I come off full throttle, so far I've been needing to keep the fuel choke about 2/3 of the way on. The hydraulic brake is awesome, HOWEVER, keep an eye on the pads!!! The stock doodlebug pads are inadequate for multiple stops of over 35+ mph. After about 2 hrs of use my first set of pads were done, I was starting to run up against the caliper. This second set has about 6 stops on them and are already halfway done. I ordered the high performance pads so we'll see how they respond. Other than that, I've been consistently hitting about 37-42 mph, according to my phone app speedometer. This swap really gave a whole new life to the bike! I love it!
