What about leaving the flywheel off?

#7
I deceided to run a string and leave the rider off for a 200 lb. weight loss and get an idea how much wind resistance and the weight makes on the bike? Just rev it let it go and hit a bail of hay at full speed. That would be the ultimate!

No, really the idea of the flywheel is very important like a harmonic balancer on an engine and a flywheel. There must be a load to create rotation and mass is a good thing.

Sorry, for all the jokes today, it's just a funny thread, roll with it and don't take it too seriously>???

If you run a MSD setup you can run no flywheel if you like. But the motor will not run correctly. I have tried it before. The motor seems to like at least 1 pound for rotating weight on the crank no matter what. It needs to have a rotating inertia to make the piston crank spin over.

When I ran it the motor would only run at 6,000 RPM and above. Any lower and it would cut off because there was nothing to keep it spinning.

I wondered this before as well. I saw a picture of an engine someone had worked on and it had no flywheel. It had a MUCH smaller fixture with magnets on it and just moved the coil wayyyy closer to the crankshaft. Anyone seen this thread? Ill look for it. But you can run an engine without a flywheel(to much work, no longer simple) So on one hand it can be done, on the other, i put a 3.5 light flywheel on my briggs as a test and it wouldnt start very easy. There wasnt enough mass to keep the engine rotationg.

His engine ws made like that the fly wheel plays no part in the ignition system he remplaced it with the shiny ring of metal. plus its cast iron every thing else it so heavy that it keeps it goin bye the way were did you get the 3.5 fly wheel off of

Milo i'm just making reference to all of the posts, each one leaving something else off of the engine, and you taking the gold metal by wanting to run a bare block, can anyone beat that by leaving out the block? cuz that would really save some money on my next project... joke son
