White Knuckle Scramble 2014 - minibike & kart racing

yes, there needs to be another bet. Craig hasn't ordered his parts yet, so I may have to pick another horse to bet on.

Yes, practice laps will go on for a couple of hours before racing starts at 12:30. Get there early and tech'd in and you'll get some track and drag time. I thought we had some drag stip practice runs last year, but not many people took advantage of it, so we went back to the track. I'll make sure we leave time for some runs.

While we're talking about the drags, does anyone have an opinion on the drag strip length? We had a LOT of opinions last year.

Is this an actual strip with lights and timing gear? I've seen a lot of 100ft-150ft drags at non drag strips/car shows that looked like a lot of fun if space is limited. Otherwise 1/8th is perfect for a mini bike if you have the space.

My friend and I are driving from Kansas City with two 7hp swapped old style doodles with no fenders. Although mine will be slightly faster since he only weighs 130lbs

Wish it wasn't so hard to find a decent classic mini for cheap!

Can we get the Hurst girls on Aug 16th
Ed,
Just maybe you could get Linda Vaughn to go, I believe she is the one in the picture you posted with her back turned. She is a classy lady and still goes to the track and attends nostalgia events. Here are a few pictures of her a couple weeks ago at Beaver Springs Dragway........

I'd go with 125ft because thats what my bike is already setup for. Thats me just being lazy. the guy with the electric bike is going to be there again this year and I know he's familiar with setup on that distance.

It's a full track, with a few long straight sections. From discussions last year everyone seemed to think 1/8 miles was too long. No timing lights. We're strictly old school. Flags and human eyes.

Chris' electric mini is in a class all by itself!

If you guys want to pay to have celebrities show up, be my guest. My hunch is that Vaughn's appearance fee is many times greater than what we made on the Scramble last year. Besides, I'd rather race than hang out with a celebrity. Faye Pierson would be better suited since she was one of the first sponsored kart racers back in the late 50s/early 60s and toured the USA and Europe racing karts.

I'm working on a 1st place trophy for each class. They'll be topped with vintage 70s motocross or 60s kart trophy toppers. :) Plus Hotroded made 2 awesome awards for categories of his choosing.

What muffler do I need to buy since I just have a straight pipe on my bike to be under the sound limit? Did anyone have an issue not getting it below the limit last year?

Yes, you're going to need some kind of number plate that the officials/score keepers can read. I suppose you could do it with a paper plate, but something stiffer would be better. The track sells them for about $2. Drill some holes and zip tie it to your bike.

I think the only place they're going to be able to see it would be on teh handle bars, otherwise your legs would be in the way.

Here is what I'm bringing for trophys
Those look great, Ed! Did you paint them? WHat do you have to do to earn them? I need to start on the class trophies tonight.

What kind of engine are you running?

There were a lot of guys running 2 stroke saw engines (like me) with mufflers that *may* have cut out 2dB. I think the 4-strokes are considerably quieter, right? I think any kind of muffler will do, but you're going to probably need something. All it takes is one neighbor to complain and we'll never be able to do another race.

FWIW, I won't be checking for mufflers during tech, but if the officials think you're too loud (they have a dB meter), then they'll pull you from competition. The officials are pretty cool about it.

I painted the green flake but had a local brush do the art work.
Here is what I think we should do for the trophy
Lemans race !
Running start you pull the cord and off you go for 5,7; or 10 laps
But that depends on the time, officials, and riders who want to do it.
All I'm gonna say its the same color as my bike and it would look good next to last year's trophy
And my bike too
As for the kart trophy since I have no knowledge of them I might pick the badassest or have a kid or 2 pick the kart.
