You ever say something really stupid?

I'm off work today and decided to roam the area looking for things to do. I came across a guy having a garage sale. Odd day a Thursday...but I stopped since I was bored.

Walk in and on a work bench he has a nice H50 Tecumseh sitting there, and a chain guard for a minibike. Asked him how much for both. He said 100 dollars. I wasn't a 100 dollars for them both so I said how much for the chain guard, he said 10 bucks. So I put it down there was no one else there. He asked me what I wanted the chain guard for. And I stupidly said "I have a Rupp minibike at home and this is the correct one for it, they usually sell for stupid money on ebay" He picks up the chain guard and says its no longer for sale. I wanted to punch myself in the face!

So if you see a Rupp chain guard show up on ebay this week you can thank me.

In the near future you shouldn't talk to the seller at garage sales or flea markets!
Did you poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick next?

id honestly rather pay $100 for one to someone who is a more honorable person, than to give $10 to someone who would change their mind like that to make a buck. ive sold things for crazy low prices and just moved forward. a deal is a deal. obviously it was worth $10 to him before you came in the door and it is still worth $10. prob got it for free. but i do get your point. when i buy things I dont normally answer questions until after i own them. especially the whats it worth to me type questions and answers.

I learned the hard way not to wear an OldMiniBikes shirt to a swap meet. Saw a Trojan minibike a while back, started negotiating with the owner. At some point he read the OldMiniBikes logo on the shirt, figured I must be an expert out to steal his mini, negotiations done... pay full price.

He still has the Trojan, and I learned a lesson.

He wanted 90 for the motor and 10 for the guard. The motor was probably at one time off a Rupp Roadster, and had a lighting coil, but with my current situation I would have to haul it around in my truck with me for the next year.

if I sell you something for a great deal i am doing it because I thought you could use that item. so if you tell me you are going to re sell the item for profit I tend to feel used
I might also remove that item or even sell it for less to a kid that would use it
.
is this logical No
but I operate on FEEL as well as logic

An alarming number of "men" don't feel bound by their word. Probably grew up drinking Pepsi for breakfast, with the TV for a babysitter.

I tryed to sell something once and the guy offered about 10% of the asking price so I countered with a selling price that was about 10% higher than the original asking price
.
no matter what people have feelings and will react to how you make them feel good or bad

Hindsite is so damn accurate.

Toys could have said, "man, ten bucks is too low, so I'll give you $25." Again, that's hind site. Dude might have seen the red flag and pulled out anyway, waiting for the next TV show to tell him how valuable it is.

True. Either way I lost out on the guard I needed for my roadster lol

If he lives close just go back and say you would like to buy it for "x". If he says no tell him he is a piece of crap and not an honorable guy and embarrass him.
