ORIGINAL HS50 FIND

Surfing the web last night on a yard sale page. I came across this amazing original Tecumseh HS50. Thought I would share. I never did figure out how to decode the D.O.M on these hopefully somone will chime in.

323rd day of 1976

Look at the serial number. The first digit of the serial is the last digit of the year. That's a square shroud, so it has to be 1974-1980s, but in 1985, the raised portion of the shroud where the recoil attaches was done away with, so it can't be 1986.

The next 3 digits indicate the day of the year it was made.

the square blower housing on an HS50 does not tell you anything. All HS50's from 1972 on have a square blower housing.

HS50's in those small bikes are fun. I retrofitted a stock '77 HS50 snowblower shortblock with Earlier round shroud 4hp parts and put it on a lil indian......it got you up to speed very quickly. Little tires really limited it though.

I want to do pretty much the same style. That's why I changed tanks. I only have this metal tank but it works. I am going to be patient when it comes to what color I want to do the bike in. Maby a green with a glitter flake with white accents.
