How can I cut off some of my cable without fraying?

I usually figure out where I need to cut and then solder it in that area. Your wire cutters should be nice a sharp too.

I use solder as well... put some flux on the cable, apply heat and when the flux bubbles, apply solder, it will wick into the cable and when you cut thru the soldered spot, the cable won't fray.

Heat shrink might work also, but I haven't tried it.

dremmel tool with a cutting disk works the best from what I've used.

I use solder and a dremmel or pliers, whichever I'm standing closest to.
