I get the revolutions part...rpm tach. But the other measures what? Harmonics?

I've had one for many years- they actually work pretty good and are fairly accurate. They come in handy when you are tuning an engine and setting idle rpm. I later bought one of those digital tachs where you wrap the wire around the spark plug wire which are more accurate and leaves your hands free.
