The 1979 was the first year of the Z50R. This version went from 1979 thru 1987. The 1979 is the most unique of this series because it had handlebars that were taller than the 1980 thru 1987 models. It also did NOT have a number plate that covered part of the muffler. It simply had a black metal heat shield. 1980 thru 1987 had a number plate that covered part of the muffler that was protected by the heat shield on the 1979 model. Check this link for more information and to compare all the different versions of the Honda Z50R - some of the text is less than accurate, but most information is correct enough to use for basic guidelines.
