2018 Build Off Update!!

I’ve been putting an hour or 2 into this project when I can and when I can get parts or service on the cheap. After 2 years I was able to begin assembly. Had the frame powder coated after I put on a new engine plate, added larger support braces near the stem, lowered the axle mounting holes by an inch, relocated the rear fender mounts and the chain tensioning brackets. 88D2F424-1756-4701-9301-5DA0599CDA69.jpeg 0E7DB4F8-4B02-471C-8B26-6FDEEEC8F0EA.jpeg 419A399A-AABC-4A0D-B68E-CA7DF1BF6DC2.jpeg 0388ECA1-CFA6-422D-89BE-663FF8E6280D.jpeg 2F935B5C-67A9-47FC-911B-53A77D00E29E.jpeg C2E823FD-8D79-4275-9DF3-C2D697BFB940.jpeg

Extended the front of the stock Baja seat by an inch to cover the non Baja tank. Redid the seat in bison hide and had someone embroider the back. D95E9EBE-E037-4817-998D-4E58181200E8.jpeg F594F24C-6700-4997-B1C4-7F2C43D92FEC.jpeg 4875CF6E-EE35-4821-B374-0159C03E80C2.jpeg

Front rim is from a Honda XR 70.. The hub is from a Honda CB 125 as is the front drum brake. The rear rubber is a Kenda 9 x 8 x 8. Stock Baja rear rim with a colored spacer to push the sprocket out to allow the chain to clear the rear tire. 039BE339-D6A4-43C1-8B4C-5779E8824554.jpeg 7CB4A011-815A-4009-BD31-9397E2B50495.jpeg E9EC952D-ECFC-4FB8-9AB5-832932DD10CE.jpeg

The rear fender was cut down and moved higher to accommodate the larger tire . Mounting holes for a rear tail light. Kept the rear drum brake but put on Honda shoes. F20ADEDB-D03F-43C0-8E13-327B7F7EBDBE.jpeg D92A2C14-A83E-4124-BFB8-823361857F0D.jpeg

I took the steering stem off the Baja and cold pressed it into the triple tree off a Honda CB 125. The new triple tree allowed for a head lamp and speedo bracket. The triple tree now fits the front shocks off the CB 125 which are configured for a front drum brake and a speedo drive. The head lamp bracket also has a spot to mount a horn.

@Lizardking. I built an electric start clone and have had to rewire it to move the switch into the battery box which will sit atop the engine. The box will house the electric distribution panel, starter switch and battery charger port. The electrical on the bike will be run off battery. I built one box in the past but it was a little small.

For the clone I have a Mikuni carb, Mod 2 cam, 22 lbs springs and a billet rod. Have not put in the cam, springs or rod until I can make sure I can get the right billet flywheel with the starter ring. It will be cruiser so I didn’t want to go crazy.

I had to go with a PRM jack shaft and ARC engine plate to accommodate moving the engine a little to the left so the front and rear sprockets line up. Not sure on exhaust yet. I have an older one from HRM but not sure if I’ll use it.

I know @FOMOGO and others have done some neat stuff and I’m always on the lookout for new ideas.

I've seen a few of those big frame bikes with a 301 and the right mods become a beast.!!! Something to think about.

Dropped the danged headlamp and broke the lens. Having trouble finding a replacement. It was a cheapo Amazon purchase, no longer available, so I’m not that surprised. Hoping I don’t need to order a new one and get it repainted. The painter has been basically doing the work just for the cost of supplies and the goodwill tank is getting near empty.
