60s era Shroud/Recoil

There are 2 small holes in the recoil housing as shown in this photo.
They are somewhat symmetrical and near the center.
Are they supposed to be there and what are they for?

I think this is where the gas line passes through from a front mounted tank to the carb.

Tiny Holes

That's funny, yea I'm talking about the tiny holes in the recoil itself.
The side view photo made my post kind of confusing....sorry.
Any body else have this old style recoil?

Never seen one but my guess is lubrication points :shrug:

Possibly an emblem was attached, maybe riveted at one time?:shrug:
