Air filter

Well i would like to change my Air filter to goe strait back instead of bending up. The only thing stopping me from doing this it there it a suction tube from the crankcase going into the bent tubing. First picture shows this. Is the tube needed for the carb to run correctly? If so how could i make the air filter go strait back.

I believe the suction tube is to capture crankcase fumes and blowby. Probably due the goverment regs. I'd put a short hose on it and point it down, open to the atmosphere. If you get a lot of oil residue coming out, you can cobble a hook up to the air cleaner. Enginne will probably run better without burning all the oily fumes.

As posted it was required by clean air regs to be vented back into the engine but you can just go with a straight hose pointed down like all the older engines that's the way my engines are as they are older.:scooter:
