How do you set the air gap for a lightning coil?

For what engine? A Tecumseh ?

Inside coil OR outside coil?

Inside Coil and lighting coil are automatically set when the points housing is placed into its holding position.

External Coil or Lighting coil are usually set manually. I set mine at 0.020 gap OR the thickness of a cigarette package.

In a pinch I'll use a sheet of paper folded over once.

A 10 hp Tecumseh Its under the flywheel. Is there a trick to getting the gap between the flywheel and coil set correctly? Or it that the one that's set automaticly?

Aaaaaaaa..... External HV coils (solid state ign) have lighting coils under flywheel.

Do you have points ign or solid state?

I make a lighting coil kit for the H35/HS40/HS50/H40/H50 solid state ign engines. The stators for those do have some play back & forth when mounting. When installing (reinstalling) you have to adjust so that the stator does not hit any magnets.
