are all inteks hard starting ?

#1
Hi All. I have an intek on my DB 30 - installed last summer. Each time when it sits a few days its a real bitch to start. I recently installed a new gas tank with a shut of valve, and tried starting it after the install, same deal - tough starting.

We installed another intek on my buddys db 30 - and same deal tough to start.

What gives ? Are there some items I need to check like the magneto air gap, or something inside the carb maybe ? Or is this just a characteristic of these motors ? I would not think so.

Answered my own question.

I decided to check some basics, plug gap (okay =.030"). magneto gap = BAD, .012 on one leg, a lot less than .010 on the other. Reset magneto gaps to .010 to .014 spec range. Started pretty easy ! I believe problem is solved. Will let it set overnite and restart as a check.

I own 2 Inteks on Aerators, they are 2 of the easiest starting engines I have ever owned. (I have owned a lot). One other thing to watch for. I have noticed that if I let them sit for a long time, (like over a month or 2) without running the carb dry, or adding fuel stabilizer or SeaFoam, the bolt/jet on the bottom of the bowl gets clogged very quickly. As long as I keep that clean, those motors start 1st pull 90+% of the time, and second pull the other times. I think they are great little motors.

I agree, other than the starting issue which appears to be fixed, I like the engine alot, once started it runs very nicely, plenty of juice for me. I wont have much chance to ride until weather gets better here, Chicago winters suck for doing anything on a mini !!
