CLutch burn out

#6
Hey Juice

It depends on your 10hp engine. Put a cheap maxtorque on a 10 hp Tecumseh and it will burn that clutch up fast. Trust me i tried it. Comet make a cheaper HD clutch that handles the power good. I forgot the model. But it cost me $60 and ive used it for over a year on a Kart and its still fine.

I have had those clutches crack in the middle of the hub. I have done this about 3 times so far. The max torque "TT" series clutch is much better.

But 10hp isn't that much to worry about.

Youll be fine with a cheap clutch. The engine wont put out the torque of a true 10hp engine. Show us some pics of your setup!

They are forthcoming. MDB keeps on telling me that the rod will fly threw the block with nitrous. If that does happen, I will just pick up a cheap block and then put the proper parts in! haha However, I am seriously considering putting some kind of 1/4 inch steel between me and the engine....

I tell guys a lot of things basically everyday. But only 50% of them actual listen to me. Some love to try things on there own. Then when bad things happen, then they do it correctly.

But with the money in the parts they just lost. They could have bought the right stuff in the beginning.

I have a friend running one of those 1.5 lb vertical flywheels on his modified 5hp briggs. I told him not to do it, but he did anyway. But it did run good, until it blew up last weekend. But the flywheel was still good????

Those are good clutches, and they only cost about double the price of a regular clutch.
A bargain at twice the price, then.

Point taken MDB. I guess I just have more faith in the stock parts due to putting a 20hp, 60hp and 100hp jet up to a 5hp briggs.
I have a theory on why that didn't end in a crater where your engine used to be.....maybe another thread.

I have some theories too.....such as the engine could only run so lean (75:1) and the excess nitrous was not even going in the engine. Adding the extra nitrous did not seem to do that much....
