Crankcase cover

#1
I am rebuilding a Tecumseh HS50 i just got.
the engine is basically striped. I took of the flywheel and all that and then tried to take off the crankcase cover.
the seal between the bearing and the crank cover is too tight, they wont seperate.
When i try to pull the cover the crank wants to come out too.
How can i break the seal?
What if i put wedges all around and start hammering them in? Will they seperate eventualy?

Are you sure its the seal or is the bearing galled up and stuck to the crank? Put the wedges in and tap the end of the crank. If it moves keep pushing the wedges in and tapping, put the flywheel or at least the nut back on and rotate the shaft as you tap.

I was just thinking, how much would a new crank bearing cost?
If its cheap would it be easier to just break the bearing to get off the cover, then replace it later?

removing side cover

I believe on a HS-50 that has a ball bearing on the PTO side of crankshaft, you will be required to remove the seal so you can access a snap ring locking the bearing to the crankshaft.
