Front end options for 70 Fox trail/street scamp

#1
Hello, just picked up what I believe is a 70 fox trail scamp, frame and swing arm only. It's missing the lower fork on the right side, also looks like it's missing the springs between the lower and upper forks. No luck so far on eBay. I'm not as concerned as keeping it original ( I have several early 70s correct bikes) what would be an easy swap for a new front end?? As in something Chinese pit bike related?? Not sure what would fit the neck,.Anyone else dealt with this problem?? Thanks in advance

You can get pitbike forks cheap from swapmeets or eBay. Also a lot of guys buy the Baja or other current front ends and fit them.

These have pit bike and surplus Suzuki front ends on them. One a speedway the other a Rupp roadster. The both came stock with the 1 3/8 x 1/2 in ball bearings.

Thanks!, exactly the information I was looking for. I've been keeping my eye out for ones off dirtbikes/ pit bikes, all foreign tho, and I wasn't sure what would fit my neck, thanks again for the advice.

Sone of them come with tapered bearings and a larger than 1/2 or 5/8 triple tree shafts. For those I machine a derlin bushing that fits the shaft and the OD presses in the frame. Then I leave a lip thin on top one and about 3/16ths on the bottom for a thrust face.

I was eyeballing that set up on eBay..... again wasn't sure of the fit, ideally was hoping to find something that would fit right up, and I've noticed between my speedway, rupp and now the fox they all have different length necks. I'm assuming with this set up. The lower part of the tree is adjustable to fit the neck I've got??.....first time dealing with adding a new front end on a mini bike

Great advice, is there any certain one I should be looking for as far a donor, that would bolt up without as much work? If I find the right deal on something I'll probably just find a way to make it work, I'm pretty sure I need one with adjustable trees to fit my neck, not the fixed style you see on most mini bikes, being as I need brakes, tires etc. Along with the front end I'm looking for a cheap pit bike to use and scavenge parts from. Although some of the triple trees from the sport bikes would definitely look sharp on it when it's all said and done, great advice, thanks again!
