Honda Z50 in Australia looking for ID

Hi all,

I was given this Z50 today by a mate and I'm going to restore it back to original but first I want to correctly ID it.

I "think" it's a 1970-1971 K2 however the only ID info I can find leaves me a bit confused.

It say the K2 VIN goes from Z50A-270236 to Z50A-387884 and the next model K3 starts at Z50A-1000001.

The details of my bike are

Engine - Z50AE-451363
Frame - Z50A-400676

So that seems to suggest it is after the K2 but before the K3

Yes I know it's a bit sad looking and the tank is wrong but I'm going to fix all of that.

Thanks all in advance.

Darren.

Your right 70 or 71 go by the frame numbers.
This one needs a lot of work as you know.
Good thing parts are available. Bad they cost $$$.
These are worth way more than the regular Minibikes
when restored but with the economy they have come down too.
Don't plan on making money after you restore.
Check my photos I have a few.
Welcome to the forum

Yeah doing it for enjoyment and to keep not make money so all good.

Any idea where I can find a more acurate list of VIN numbers for different models? This list says that the 70-71 model finishes at 387884 but mine is 400676

I have a print out I got off the net but it doesn't say where it is from??
It says that the 1972's start with a 7 digit # starting at Z50A-1000001
So yours has to be before that. My guess would be late 1971?

Try Honda Motorcycle Parts Up To 40% Off, Honda ATV Parts, Honda Scooter Parts,Honda Accessories
Use the search box on the left and select what you need to until it ask for a year. Then choose bikes without a year and it will list everything made before The last year listed
(I think that is 74) scroll down to the bottom and you'l find the Z 50's
Pick one after your vin number but before the 7 didgit numbers and it will list parts. It should be close to your bike you may recognize same or similar parts . A lot of those parts cross multiple model years.

I hope this helps

Yes I think you're right, my mate found the original tank today, it has the MiniTrail badge on it.
