I just found a Sears Roper

It doesn't have a gas tank on the frame. Did they all have the frame mounted tank? It's got a 5hp Tecumseh, scrub brake and a hand brake that appears to be some kind of band brake on the clutch hub. Is this original or something someone cobbed together?

I’m pretty sure they didn’t all come with the tank. The clutch brake is probably something a previous owner added to supplement the scrub brake.

If it is an H50 5hp, then I would have had a frame mounted tank, if its an HS50....well they never came with one so thats added on. The frames and seats are different between the non tank and tanked versions so that is an easy tell to know what model. They did use a band brake on some models but it was on the jackshaft with a drum if it had it. Most the H50/5hp bikes though had a disc brake if it is a scrub brake 6" wheel version, they were normally TC driven originally with the medium frame engines.
