my mini baja find

I picked this up yesterday.

I have the fake gas tank , not in the pics. It runs. I'm missing the seat, the headlight, the clutch cover, the front chain, the starter rope handle, and the gas cap. Someone had added a sissy bar made from rebar. I hate sissy bars, especially ones made from rebar. The rear wheel will not roll . I think the chain is frozen stiff. I have the master link sprayed with PB Blaster hoping that it will roll when the chain is removed. Are these things difficult to put gas in with the fake tank in place? Is the seat pan metal ? Do the seat bolts screw in from underneath the seat?

It looks like I'm missing the tensioner for the front (primary) chain and the spring for the kickstand also.

things to do.

rock the handlebars back n forth.
check the front fork headset Bearings, they are usually toast.
look at how the bars mount to the top fork plate, see those rubber washers?
those need to be replaced.

take the motor off, clean all that dirt off the tinfoil engine mounting plate
Check for Cracks! they All crack! :hammer:
reweld as needed/or weld/install a real motor plate.

fake gas tanks,r a pain,i took a baseball bat and Rolled the lip on the pass side for about 5 inches so i can reach right under there now.
looks almost like factory did it now.

motor,get one from harbor freight.
the Predator.99 bucks,79 if you have the coupon.done deal.
chain you can get from tractor supply,20 bucks gets you a box.
get a chainbreaker tool too and dont use any master links.
headlites suck, look on ebay for something different.
that tensioner is pricey but only fits that setup..sorry.

seats are cheap.
see that front Hoop on the frame?
the front underside of the seat has a plastic<< tab that slides inside there/it breaks.
the back has a stud, that drops in the hole on that flat bar.
the stud is mounted in,you guessed it,plastic/more breakage.
we do need a custom seatmaker who has the means to make metal pans/seats for this bike..hint..hint.
edit: id even donate a seat for the project

i have a bunch of these, they make great trail beaters.
hope any of this helps out.:scooter:

Good advice. All of it is true.
I paid $102.77 for 212 cc hemi Predator this month. $119 and a 20% off coupon, plus tax. 102.77 out the door. Can't beat them for the money. It won't run the headlight though. For that you will need a stand alone battery system or an engine with a lighting coil. With some effort you can make the jackshaft setup work or just run a higher overall ratio and do without it altogether. I like the low ratio on mine. I prefer to play around pulling wheelies rather than running it at 40mph+
Good basis for a fixer upper

The chain , while needing attention, was not the no-roll problem. This was...
[/URL

What appears to be rust was actually a greasy mess. The lining was detached from one shoe. I cleaned it all up and reinstalled the rear wheel and drum, without the shoes, so I can roll the thing around instead of carring the rear end.I suppose I will be replacing the shoes , unless I can find something to rebond the lining to the shoe. Any suggestions on what to use? Thanks.

Get Honda shoes for it. Way better material. Do a search on here for part #. Also...you can just use a half link for the front chain and don't need tensioner. Another search for ya....:thumbsup:

don't throw anything away until you replaceit. hard to match parts when there is nothing to compare it to.
i will pull mine out tomorrow and rip it down the street.
