rts tri sport

the idler spocket on my rts tri sport 400 ccw does it ride on the inside of the chain or the outside of the chain to take up the slack it came without a chain on it and i do have the chain and it looks like it could go either way to take up the slack ?

I believe they were on the outside of the chain and most all had a half link. Alsport didn't make a RTS with a 400ccw from factory
