I have a tecumesh hsk600 1700s that wont start. It has spark. I tried to start it but when it wouldnt i tried to put gas into the cylinder head and then start. at that point the starter began to kick back (high compression i think, not a broken key) and while exhaust came out the engine wouldnt start. it felt and sounded like it was about to and it would make some funny sound. i found a parts diagram online:
Parts and Diagrams for Tecumseh HSK600-1700S
before i was told that it was a carb problem. i dont know. what do you guys think?

btw, this is my first time working with a two stroke engine

I would take out the air filter (check that out for being dirty) and have someone help you with squirting or spraying fuel mixture through the carb throat while starting the motor. if it's catching then your starved for fuel - Is your fuel / oil mixture correct. And check all carb jet passages for being clogged and blow out with high compressed air with carb cleaner numerious times Check for a little hole for the main jet it may be plugged and also try a new spark plug with correct heat range and gap it may be bad.

and just for kicks try backing out high speed jet a little it may be too lean - if it has one or if it has a fixed jet check and see if all the little passages are clear in it also. Check the float level also and make sure the intake is on tight and carb too or it may have a bad intake gasket or carb to intake gasket causing a vacumme leak.

Good luck firing your motor...

It's a two stroke? Yeahhh could be a carb problem.. Also, a two stroke will often have a bunch of old unused fuel pooled up in the bottom end of the engine, so when ya try rolling it over, it keeps dumping that old crap gas and oil in the motor, and it won't burn and loads up..

If the lower end is clean, all the seals are good, compression and spark are right,

hold it wide open and spray it with a shot of premix, and pull the hell out of it, it's about GOTTA do something...

Unless it's been melted down..

I just got it goin today, but the carb leaks. my dad is thinking that a gasket got messed up when I took the bowl off to clean it (I had somebody help me with it because im still kinda new to this)
my fuel mix was wrong too and I fixed that. I was using my uncles 40:1 when it should've been 50:1
dang, with all my homework and sports I haven't been on the sight in ages!

somehow it ends up taking too much time. it took me a week to get around to make a 50:1 fuel mix for this engine! (i also procrastinate a lot)

talked to my uncle and he says that he thinks (hasnt seen it yet) that the float might not be set correctly. he's gonna help me look at it tomorrow
