Tru Test Build From New Zealand

Hey Buck...I think thats NZland lingo for a good runnin (mint)5hp on a rototiller (hoe). Good choice for the engine swap, I was gonna suggest getting a briggs 5er but forgot. Getting older sucks :doah:. If you ever want more power from it there are lots of hi-perf parts around for them, well, maybe not locally.
Thanks for clearing that up  I was thinking of getting a pipe for the 5hp from the states, as I saw a guy with a ruttman on YouTube and it sounded incredible!

The engine my friend has has two shafts, would this be a problem? One main crankshaft and one camshaft that sticks out of the side.
A standard Max Torque clutch generally hides it and doesn't interfere. If it does, cut it shorter, but not so short you lose your oil seal.

If you were in the US, I'd tell you how easy it was to get a replacement cam and side cover off of ebay. I suspect shipping would be prohibitive however.

I have made a list of possible engines I could use in my head.

1. 5hp Briggs and Stratton. It's really a matter of actually finding one at the moment! But its a possiblity...

2. A Tecumseh. Also a matter of finding one. Any recommendations on which one to get?

3. Kawasaki FA130D. I can most likely get my hands on one of these fairly soon. It's seen very little use and ran fine around 4-5 years ago.

Image is off the internet, its the same engine but mine's white.

In NZ and Australia there is a good amount of junior dragsters, they run 5hp briggs as well as small bike engines. (we don't do that in North America, briggs only)
So, google junior dragracing in NZ and I found;
Price Motor Sport
and
2014 NZ Junior Dragster Champs

If you do some digging you'll be able to find all the parts you need. No it probably won't be cheap...but you can get them.

Managed to get the Kawasaki the other day, pretty good condition. It's been sitting for about 7 years but it fired right up. Also managed to make a much better seat out of some vinyl and sponge  The honda has a broken pullstart but the briggs is almost done

I found a 5hp today and i'm picking it up tomorrow. I was told that it's a runner, just missing a carb and tank. Presumably an 80's model?

I have a carb and tank off a non-runner 50's 5s. Its a vaccu-jet, the one without the diaphram on the side. How will this perform? As I noticed that the intake hole under the filter is pretty small...

Are there any other cheap carb alternatives? I can run one of those cylinder shaped tanks, possibly.

Upon a change of mind, I will most likely be painting the bike a burnt metallic orange, so i'm having a hard time thinking about what colour to paint this motor. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have chosen to go after a Chrysler themed bike. There will be a pentastar badge on the front of the bike, and a smaller one on the front of the motor, because I can't get decals here. yet.

Got the bike all torn down, just gotta buff off the powdercoating :grind:

Thanks

If your doing that the only choice for seat material would be Corinthian leather

Looking good, thats a neat little frame

Sorry for the lack of updates. I think you gotta say bump when reviving a thread from last year.
Lots of people here have already seen the build thread I did for that motor. Pics tomorrow I guess!

Sorry to bring up my old thread, but I wanted to finish this thread with the finished bike!

I am currently fitting the footgrips to it, and I am going to paint the seat black, but it rides so here it is! Not bad for my first mini eh?

I'm keen on building a Taco Frijole frame, and I have many parts to use, like my 2hp Stroker motor

But Here is my finished bike...

Before:

After
