Why a dollar?

i saw some pics of the Windber Minibike Reunion and saw some bikes with dollars clipped on to the handle bars. Does anybody who was there know what this means or represents? :shrug:

That was the way to vote. Whoever got the most money in their bag won the show. The money was donated to the Winber PD for childrens empty stocking fund or something of that sort.
