1966 Harley M50

#1
I have a 66 Harley M50 that my Great Uncle gave me when I was a kid for a small engine project. I got it running and raced my brother who was on a Rupp mini bike on a flat oval track we made in a pasture. We had a blast back then! I regeared the Harley with a bicycle crank sprocket. The Harley was great in the turns but the Rupp was a little faster in the straights making them an equal match. The Harley finaly blew the rings out the exhaust and the Rupp's rear wheel kept falling off. The Rupp got sold for $50. but I still have the Harley and want to restore it someday after my Super Bronc project. Any ideas where I could get parts for it? The gas tank is full of rust inside, whats the best way to fix it? Thanks, Ash

Pretty well all those little Harleys and Indians and stuff, were just a Benelli, or some Itallian bike, with Harley or whatever painted on the tank.. So if you figure out what donor bike your Harley is, you can broden your search by searching parts for your (Harley 50 OR Benelli 50) or whatever the situation.. It help broaden your search for air filters and sprockets or any part that corresponds to your machine..

It was made in Italy for Harley by Aermacchi. Looking for rings or piston assembly. Anyone ever have any luck repairing rusty gas tanks?

I am trying white vinegar with hex nuts and leave soak for a few days and shake the crap out of it,then drain into a oil drain pan and strain with coffee filters. You can also use brick etching purchased at the home depot to finish up,this is phosperic acid and will leave a black coating on the rust that is left. run premix and filters and you are good to go. the vinegar takes several days and draining but it works great , havent got brave enough to wrap in towels and put in the dryer with the vinegar.
