196cc Clone - First and Safe Mods

#1
Hi all,

I am super new to the minibike scene. I just bought a bt200x with the 196cc clone. Was just wondering some modifications I could do to bump power and speed safely. I've heard that the flywheel and rod are parts that should be upgraded to billet parts down the road however I am not sure I am ready to go that deep just yet. Are there any mods I can do right now without swapping those parts and won't jeopardize safety?

Being new to these things, why not just ride it and get used to it?
As you ride it, there will be things you love and things that you might not like so much. Modify your machine to personalize it to your tastes.
Be careful and have some fun. You'll have all winter to tweak it.

Cut the throttle stop screw and be sure you are getting full throttle. Check the return spring as it may coil bind, if it does, like mine did, I cut some off and then stretched the spring to make it the same original length. went from 19mph to 24.

Good advice to "start from stock" and work your way through all the tweaks and upgrades. The throttle stop screw, like tlizard said, is a big one for these clone engines. Mine was screwed all the way in basically and stuck on low speed--good for beginners of course and they're set that way from the factory.

The governor can also be adjusted for higher speed as well.

Note that this adjustment is made without taking the engine apart or removing the governor.
