5 h/p Briggs won't start

#1
I have a 5 h/p Briggs with a Hilliard extreme duty clutch. Mt Briggs will start and run without the chain from the clutch to the jack shaft. It will not start when I put the chain back on. Can anyone help

can you turn thew drum while the engine is off and the chain is on?you should be able to turn it fairly easily, not tight and binding.make sure there is slack in the chain, about 1/2 inch or so.just tight enough so it stays on,but not lose enough so it falls off when running.

Sounds to me like you have clutch problems, not allowing slippage while at low RPM's. Need to take apart and clean and free it up or best bet to replace if you got the bucks and don;t want trouble in the future.

A few drops of sae30 crankcase oil on bushing is all the lubrication that is necessary.
WD-40 should not be used.
Clutch shoes and drum should not be lubricated.
