There are a number of places that sell a two=part expoxy putty that you mix by your fingers that will patch it. Seen it used on old Monster Garage show cures in the presents of fuel, check with local auto parts store.

i agree with him . i have done more then a few repairs on tanks , i drain all the gas i can and set the tank in the sun and let it air out for a few days if need be till i cant smell gas . then solder or weld it shut . i would do solder and a small filler piece if need be . the solder will last a long time .
