Axle sizing...go bigger or smaller? Newb needs your help.

So the kart has a 1" axle that's 37" long end to end. I need to replace it but they only sell 36" or 38"???
I am looking for an entire rear axle setup so What would going bigger or smaller do or affect?

There standard ends threaded, short ends, even seen a solid axle with snap ring ends. Do I need to match the wheel hubs to axle ends?

It's a yard kart, 8hp motor with 22x10-8 rear wheels/tires

you dont need collars. this is a steel threaded axle, and you can use bolt on hubs, i said in your other thread that there are 1 inch bolt on 4 bolt golf cart pattern hubs they are basically same thing as some tiller hubs as well. (ive seen them in scrapyard, almost pulled them but didnt have time) this is for a yerf dog go kart which is a similar offroad go kart.
