Briggs 2HP Overhaul

Hey Im new here and i was hoping i could get some help with an old briggs 2HP that i want to use for a minibike. The valves are completely covered in black stuff and i wasnt sure what to do to get it off. If anyone knows any good parts web sites please let me know about them. Thanks!

I think a wire wheel would clean them up just fine. Never worked on a small engine, but that's what I do for car motors.

DON`T use a WIRE WHEEL,it can damage the valves.
Try gasoline or lubricant.

If you have already used a wire wheel and it damaged the valves you will have to reseat them. Actually you will probably have to do that anyway.

Wipe it down with carb cleaner, a rag, and q-tips.

A wire wheel, been doing it like that since '81 and never 'hurt' one.

What are the valves made of? Aluminium sometimes need brass wire. Unless your motor is together and you just have the head off. Then a little elbow grease should work.

just stay out of the seats and sealing surfaces and youll be alright with the wire wheel. i usually scrape off what i can with a screwdriver and clean the rest up with carb cleaner and a wire wheel. brass bristles on a drill is what i usually use for the head
