Cool!!! Its nice to know theres at least one person working on the same type brand frame I am.

I just tore my mtd down and sent it off for powder coating.

I'll get some pics up next week.

Good deal dennis. I'm trying to document this one - it's not a full restoration, but a nice clean up on an old bike.

I'll be posting pics of the progress as I go through it. I'm thinking about having some new parts made up for it - for example the jackshaft mount, I may have it re-made in stainless and the exhaust pipe. These are just ideas that I'm throwing around for now.

We'll see how things work out. I'm trying to get a hold of a newer tecumseh 4 or 5HP - I may have a lead on a 4 horse with electric start, but I doubt the guy will come through. I've got my eyes peeled though.

Let us know how you're making out with your MTD and definitely get some pics!

Is there any thing actually wrong with your jackshaft mount?

You could always stripp the part of rust and paint and have it powdercoated reflective chrome. It'll look like a dull polished aluminum and that looks really nice plus it'll last forever.

If you need somone to Powdercoat Just Send this guy a email. He does frames as well as any small parts that need to be refinished. justin@jmbperformance.com

It's a little worn out, but still 100% useable. I just thought it would be cool to have it made in stainless, since it wouldnt cost me much.

I beadblasted it, and painted it for now. I'll see if I like it or not.

As for the powder coating, I've been looking into buying a used setup from a friend. Reasonable price with two ovens, and possibly the bead blaster he has.

If it turns out to be a good deal, even if it's just for personal use, that would be pretty sweet.

Here is a picture of the jackshaft mount in primer.

Hey Drew, are you bringing that thing with for the trail ride? I might bring a couple bikes for just show or to ride around the campgrounds. I'm so pumped for the ride. Making arrows with OldMiniBikes on them, so everyone will know where to go for the "Hare scramble" :D.
Any other suggestions???

Got the frame going. What do you guys think of the color?

I'll take some more pics as I put it back together in a few days. Anything that was chrome/rust is now black, so I think it should look OK - I hope.

Jim,

Yeah, I'm hoping to bring it on the trail ride. I just need to do a "little bit" of work to it, and possibly score a new motor. Should have it done just in time.

Still unsure of how many people are going, but it would be cool to setup a little schedule so people can get together all at once, maybe for a ride, dinner, etc?

Drew,
I was thinking high noon on Saturday for a ride with everyone together. I'm going down on Friday as early as I can to find a good route and put up arrows or whatever.
For dinner, I think they have a pavillion we could all cook together there or at the camp sites. I think I'll try to get a vote on that when we meet up for the ride on Saturday. It's going to be pretty casual for the first event I'm sure.

Hent I need to get some measurments from you on your seats swingarm mount.

I want to make my MTD a Springer seat like the Columbia. I have to get that on before the powdercoat.

BTW, Yours looks real good!!!

Thanks Dennis.

How soon do you need the measurements?

I may be able to get them tomorrow if I head up to my garage, if not it'll probably be next tuesday/wednesday as I'm headed out from thursday-monday. Tuesday/Wednesday may be better for your measurements as that's when I'll be reassembling things and you could get a better idea. Just a thought.

I just really need to know how wide the mount is from outside flange to outside flange, and how far the pivot holes are from the rear bends that go down to side plate. Im sure this isnt critical within a 1/8" should work.

I also need to get the entire length measurment of the swingarm.

Just get them somtime in the next few days at your convience.

Thanks!!!

Looks good!!!. I Told ya I bought a Columbia Didnt I?

Hey If you low pressure bead blast your tires they will look like new.

I do the ones I can save with 50 psi and starblast. A thin wipe down with armour all afterwards will keep them looking perfect.
