Garage Sale Find

I found this old rig on the way home from grocery store at a garage sale. According to the village Briggs website and the 5S model motor was built in November 1951. Reel mower was made by the F&M mower company. I'm going to dump your alarm see if I can get it running.

It has good compression. Im going to dump the old gas and oil. It does have spark. If it if I can get it running I'll post a video. My wife said nice something else collect ... Lol

I had a similar mower about 20 years ago. Gotta get it so it starts on the first pull or that wrapping the rope around gets old in a hurry.

Today I went though the motor and it started right up. I was hoping to use it on my front lawn. It's pretty small area. Fortunately the mowers highest adjustments only two inches. I guess they mowed the lawns pretty short back in the 50s ??

Those reel mowers are for a close cut.Golf courses use them on the greens.Test a small spot and see how it does.I see people use them,and their lawns look very nice.

Yes I know now after-the-fact... Lol are usually cut the lawn about 2 3/4 high. But it is such a simple good riding mower

Iv got one same engine and about the same year also. Its fun to mow with but I had to make the handle for it and its kinda short gotta watch the toes.

Running

I raise the deck elevation as high as I could. That's why it's slanted forward. After changing the oil and put a new plug and it runs wonderful.
