Gemini Shift mechanism

I'm having trouble on a 1973(?) Gemini 80. Looks like someone ran it while the shift mechanism loosened up. The stopper pin that connects with the cam plate is gone, But my real problem is how to get the return spring back onto the shift lever. The previous owner disassembled it so I'm not really sure how it fits.

The shift return spring which operates in both directions goes on the back of the shift shaft and when you mount the shaft in the case there is a screw with no head on the case that slides between the ears on the spring which creates the spring tension when shifting. Photos are a big help. Where in Cali are you located.
