Hoping to be a minibike owner soon!

Hello! My brother and I, along with a few pals have been bit by the minibike bug and we are actively searching and acquiring minibikes. I’m heading out tomorrow to take a look at a 69 Montgomery Ward V424. I hope it checks out ok!

Bam! Picked it up this morning. A quick test pull at his place confirmed good compression and an indication that it wanted to run. Another quick pull when I got home and it fired right up!

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

I rode the bike around the neighborhood for a while the day I picked it up. That gave me a good opportunity to assess the overall condition of the bike.

A quick list of subpar items includes:
1. Poor braking, even when adjusted
2. Throttle cable was cobbled together using a hand brake as opposed to the twist throttle
3. Front end has seized up
4. Jackshaft has been goobered up with welds and is not functioning properly
5. Front fender has a stress crack in it
6. The motor has slight scoring on the cylinder...

My younger brother just finished rebuilding a Tecumseh 3 horse motor for his bike, and he is a cylinder head guy, so I have no worries on rebuilding the engine. The other parts I’m sure are rebuildable/replaceable... I could just use a few suggestions from the group regarding your favorite places to buy parts.

Thanks!
Chris
