HS40 Crankshaft Removal

#1
How do you get the crank out of this motor? This thing from the flywheel is holding it on and I already broke something on this bike by hammering so I'm gun shy now.

Is this just rusted on or something else?

Have you removed the crank cover? I know on my HS50 there is a retaining clip behind the oil seal that has to be removed for the cover to slide off.

Your gonna have to remove the points loab on the flywheel side. I see its still on in the pic. It should pull right off. The clutch side is probably rusty, so just sand it down good first and use some wd40 and it should slip right out.

Apparently Clinton has some kind of retaining clip on the sidecovers....

Ruined a good 4hp Clinton after wrestling with the sidecover for a couple of hours...:doah:
