HS50, Isky cam, ARC rod, timing, engine

#1
Here's a question to those who have done it. HS50, isky cam, same as yours, arc rod, cleaned and polished ports, stock rebuilt carb with better air cleaner, header, and basically every other tid-bit I found you guys doing. QUESTION: advance the timing ? and to what degree? With or without key? and how, it's a points fired motor...( no g'vnor)

You can do some of that stuff to a hs50 but it looks like you were reading what people are doing to ohv motors, i.e. Honda/clones

you can advance with the breaker plate, the holes could be elongated if needed. problem is flywheel for safe high RPMs, im not aware of a good safe one for these engines, especially if you wanna keep the lighting coils if so equipped. I know some guys on here are mesing around with differant flywheels and changing the taper in them. Advancing timing wont get you more power per se, youd just get it at a higher RPM. why not try 4 degree increments till you start to feel power fall off, then youd know where to be.
