So basically what makes this two speed is two different sprockets with different amounts of teeth?

This style clutch has two 12 tooth gears.
It takes a special jackshaft, or you only get one speed.
The above clutch sold yesterday for $75.00

This is a manually shifted one.

This is an automatic shift one.

can any clutch slide onto the jackshaft or is the clutch on the jackshaft a special clutch too

Mac, Hows the manual shift one work, Can you shift it while riding or do you have to stop to change it to one speed or the other. I never seen that style two speed only the auto ones.

.....Heathkit Boonie Bike's use the manually shifted shaft, as do some Bonanza's. The one pictured is a Bonanza shaft. Yes you can upshift, but it's not recommended to downshift without stopping first.
.....Imagine shifting a car with a four speed from first gear to third, that's what it's like to shift these shafts. Scream it, back off the gas, and shift.
