Mini Trike from scratch

Thanks. The length isn't just for looks. It's also for balance, handling, and weight distribution. The longer wheelbase makes for a smoother ride. The fact that the rear end sticks out allows the seat to be positioned farther in front of the rear axel, which gives a little more weight forward. Hopefully I'll get it finished tomorrow or next weekend and get to ride it. I've been checking out your projects. Interesting stuff

Got a little more done, almost finished. I made some mounts from flat bar to mount the seat. I mounted the seat on 5" springs. The seat was made from an old suede jacket. The seat pan was cut from the lid for a barrel. Drilled the top triple tree and mounted the clamps and an old set of chopper bars. Made a drop board for the rear and taped off some funky looking letters . Since it's made mostly of junk and scrap metal, Junkster should be a good name for it.
The backward N and the ugly font is for effect. I stuck a temporary tank and throttle on it and was shocked that it fired on the second pull. This is the first time I fired it up after changing the carb and intake and degoverning it. It idles smooth and accelerates great. I thought I might have to rejet it, but unless it runs different under load, it's good to go. It's only a 19mm carb, but is as big as the stock one. The stock intake had a built in restrictor, which I threw away and made an intake from 2 modified exhaust flanges and a piece of pipe about 2" long. Can't wait to ride it.

Couldn't resist any longer. I put on the new clutch and chains, and front axel and spacers. I put the temporary fuel tank on my lap and rode it around a little. It's very quick. Probably would pull the front end off the ground if I tried. I didn't wind it out too much because of the fuel tank. It turns on a dime. The differential is the way to go. You don't have to lean or anything to turn around. It has a very tight turning radius. I'll get a permanent tank and throttle on it soon. Then I can really try it out.

Jimh, you're really making it hard for me to keep my mind on what I'm doing now, I be driving that truck wondering what you guys are up to, tune in and see you are all most done, I really wish the month would hurry up and go by so I can get back in the shop, i picked up 2 lawnmowers to fix, those should be a breeze, but the mini's take so much more time, oh well should be able to buy some new parts soon with the extra $$$$, great to see that you got to try it out, are you going to sell it? Looks like if you do you might stand to make some cash.

cool jimh:thumbsup:,i can't wait to use my open rearend someday. sometimes with a smaller front tire it also makes it harder to turn, but with the open rearend it sounds like it turn real good still.

Delray, I'll try to do a little video this weekend, after I mount a more permanent tank. The first time I rode it it really shocked me how fast it steers. When I cut the wheel, I kind of expected it to tip a little, but it whipped to the left instantly with no tipping at all. I did a few tight figure 8s to check it out. I put a slight forward tilt in the frame and the rear mounts also have a little forward tilt. The seat is probably 8-10" in front of the rear axle. I didn't want a wheelie monster. When I crack the throttle, it feels like the thing wants to run out from under me,but the front end stays down. I can feel it pulling, but it stays down. I like it. It's quicker than any of my minis. It's hard to believe the carb and intake made that much difference.

Dave, I'm going to keep it. I'm just in it for the fun. When I was building my build off mini, I was digging around the boneyard behind my shop, and these tilller handles kept catching my eye. They were shaped like the upper part of a mini frame. Next thing I know, I was building a frame. It just snowballed from there. I'm tickled to death with it. Plan to build another. I have a couple more differentials going to waste. I may as well make good use of them.
