need help with tilloston hl314

#1
Hi guys, im looking for some help with my carb! i have a tecumseh star flat head, it came with a tilloston hl 314g 716. The motor is stock except minor porting. It runs but doesnt run real good. I have never used a tilloston carb before and know virtually nothing about them. Can anybody tell me is this the right carb that should be on this motor? can this carb be used with gas or strictly alcohol? I just bought a repair kit for it and am going to clean and rebuild it. help appreciated thanks

Does it have three plates, or two on top of the body? If you have a true Tecumseh Star, it originally came with a HL363. The 314G was originally designed as a gas carburetor but many were converted to methanol. If it's been converted to alcohol, you will not be able to run gas in it with any decent results. there are several things that need to be done to the carbs when rebuilding to insure good operation. Got a picture of the motor, manifold, and carb?

That's an alcohol stack. that doesn't necessarily mean it's alcohol though. Carb is pretty dirty; needs a real good cleaning; I use a tumbler. There might be an issue with the pulse on that manifold. Can't tell without more pictures.
If you need any help, let me know.
