Hi all,
At swap meet in Prescott Az last weekend and scored this PakJak for $40. had no idea what it was at the time and neither did the seller. Not long into my research I discovered this site, great resource for my project. I've also been posting in the projects section here.
Thanks to all you who are putting up so much info on these monsters, it's been a great help in determining my goals and direction for this oldie.

I was told many guys ran their chevron treads backwards on purpose. The back end doesn't slide out as easily on sidehills. Cool bike!

Hi All,
George, yours looks like the twin brother of mine, almost the same in the parts we have.
My frame was hacked by the seller, his son was going to put the HF Predator 420 cc engine this. I did get the 212cc to install for $99.00 on sale at HF. I will be cutting off the 1/4" plate that was welded in and re-bending some new tubes for the bottom of this frame.

Still a bit up in the air about the drive chain setup, I'm thinking about a TAV torque converter with a single jack shaft gear reduction. These originally had a 40:1 reduction with a top speed of 8 mph, I'm thinking I want it just a bit faster and can achieve a 25:1 reduction thru a single jack shaft setup. This will allow me to put a nice disk brake onto the jack shaft as well. I've heard these were a bear to stop when going downhill and the old brake system was a friction belt around a pulley, it's probably safer just to jump off before hitting a tree.

The monster rear tire is on a 15" wheel and tire diameter is 28"". Gonna remove tire so I can sandblast and powder coat the wheel, I'll determine the bias of the chevrons upon re-assy.

Cool project and a fun find, thanks to you all for helping with input and pics.

Pics of tear down and sandblasting.

Hi George
I have studied your photos many times over the past two weeks, thanks for posting them. Its hard to find good photos on these. I'm cutting the frame up this wknd and re-welding in two bottom tubes to bring this back to original. I do have an issue with the fork tube being tweaked from the prev owner cutting the frame. Ill be able to pull this back int place before weeding in the new tubes.

My plans for a single gear reduction jack shaft will flip the tire around and put the final gear on the correct side of the frame. I'll also be able to install a disk brake into this setup.

Thanks James

Thanks for the pics James, I have also seen yours on my research of the PAC Jac. I've also seen your Burro several times and it has been mistaken for a Pak Jak in one reference. Do you still have the Pak Jak?

BTW, I love Newhall, very pretty area. Many Many years ago I raced a blown fuel flat bottom Sangar at Castaic, this was a yearly stop for us. Great lake to race in, surface held a small consistent 2" chop, perfect for flatties. I also pulled Gordon Eppling to a world record barefoot ski run there, 96 mph in 1976. Good Times.

Thanks,
Ron

Found an old pic, 172 mph without a canopy, Damn we were stooooopid back then.
