I want to get the strut mount catch can, but I didn't want to install it in the back by the tire... where else can I mount it? I was thinking maybe in front of the engine, or where the rear fender mounts in front of the tire
You can make a bracket and hang it wherever you want. I've seen examples here on OldMiniBikes of them mounted horizontally under the seat; on top of the engine; vertically in front of the engine utilizing the gas tank mounts; in front between the frame down tubes, etc.

I've used a small nitro RC air filter as a breather on my 6 HP Tecumseh and haven't experienced any issues. Perhaps an oil catch can is still the best.
