Powr kraft 3hp by B&S weather vane governor

#1
I picked up an edger for $20 with the above motor attached. It didn't fire right away but after a quick carb cleaning I got it going nicely. Holds a nice idle and it's nice and responsive to throttle input. I'm new to these motors and was wondering if I could remove the "weather vane" governor without any issues? I like simplicity of the motor and might use it for my mini bike project instead of the 5hp motor I have.

You can remove it, but you stand a fair chance of over-reving the engine if you do, and breaking it bad. If you do remove the governor, you'll have to fabricate a different throttle system directly to the carburetor butterfly plate, as well as a return spring mechanism.

Not hard to do. The above considerations are the issues. I recommend keeping it as it is, then concentrate on the mini bike application, and get a better feel for that aspect. At that point, you will probably decided to go with the 5HP, because in comparison, it is a torque monster.
